Compatiblity settings applied between Works 9 and new program

I have a brand new computer that runs Windows 7, 64-bit.  It came with M/S Works 9 Program installed.  Recently, I have been having a compatiblity issues coming up.
I just downloaded a new program and now I get a compatibility error messages on that program,
as well as my WORKS 9 program.   I clicked on "Test compatiblity settings" and the message comes up saying: "Settings applied: Windows compatiblity mode: Windows XP service pack 2.  User Account control run as adminstrator.  You need to start the program to
make sure these new settings have fixed the problem.  After running the program using these settings click next to continue."  Why is it saying that???  Why would it be trying to run in XP mode???  What did I do???

It's not running in XP Mode (the Virtual PC-powered emulation mode), it's running in XP Compatibility Mode.
If the program is working fine, you can close the message and work normally.
You can see the compatibility settings for any program by right-clicking it and choosing properties, then looking at the Compatibility tab.
If Windows detects that a program needs to run in a compatibility mode (either by some logic or from the manufacturer's requested
settings), it will apply the settings automatically for you and ask you to check if it works.
